Are there any other costs involved? Other schools charge a promotion fee of $100.00.

Yes, there are a few other costs involved.  At some point you will need a gi (uniform).  Gi prices run from $20.00 to $45.00 depending on size and are high quality canvas so they last.  We do not up charge for the uniform. We sell it to you for what we buy it for. We also don't suggest you buy a gi until you know that you want to stay in Karate.

There is a promotion fee.  $20.00. Which cover the new obi (belt) and diploma.

At some point you will want sparing gear.  Head gear, Hand and foot pads run about $65.00.  Again we suggest you wait to buy the sparing gear until you are sure you want to continue with karate and are ready to make the investment. We have equipment available for you to use until you are sure you want to stay.

How long will it take to get a black belt?

There is no set time to get a black belt.  It takes a minimum of three and a half years training 2-3 times a week. Grading for rank occurs when a student has demonstrated their understanding and ability to apply what they have learned. Rank in our organization is not guaranteed and can not be bought. Rank is earned through hard work, dedication, and diligent training.

Most schools require contracts. Do you?

No, we do not require contracts.  We are confidant in our instructors and curriculum to keep our students coming back. Tuition is on a monthly basis and can be stopped at any time. If you decide to stop training with us, your are not bound to a long term financial obligation.

My friend takes Tae Kwon Do, and says it is the best style. Why should I take isshinryu?

There is no best style of Martial Arts.  It depends on what you want to learn. If you are interested in competing in tournaments and point fighting then any style ending in Do is where you want to look.  Most styles ending in Do (Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Karate Do) are designed for sport. If you want relaxation and have no desire in learning self defense then perhaps Qigong or Tai Chi Chuan would be for you.

Our main goal is teaching you how to defend yourself.  We practice Isshin-ryu which is a hard Okinawan style of Karate using natural stances to give the practitioner mobility and dexterity. Close-in techniques and low kicks for street practicality. Our ground fighting program focuses on doing damage on the ground and getting back to you feet.
